Report: Seahawks interested in Jared Allen

I know I’m a little late to this, but wanted to pass along the reports that are out there that the Seahawks are among the teams speaking with former Vikings defensive end Jared Allen.

Allen will be 32 when next season begins, but has still been a highly productive player, with 11.5 sacks in 2013.

Allen had a salary cap number of more than $17 million in 2013. He won’t get anywhere near that with the Seahawks, if he were to sign. But as the linked story notes, probably the only way Seattle could make it work is to cut Chris Clemons and his $9.7 million deal, likely making it, essentially, a trade of Clemons for Allen.

Seattle’s apparent interest in Allen continues to illustrate the Seahawks’ intent to keep the defensive line at a high level. Seattle cut Red Bryant and has lost Clinton McDonald.

But it soundsĀ  as if the Seahawks have a good chance to keep Tony McDaniel.

And as reported earlier, defensive tackle Jason Hatcher of the Cowboys is visiting Seattle.

As the Dallas Morning News reports, though, Hatcher is expected to have five visits, another of which is reported to be with the Titans.

So work remains as day two of free agency nears.
