Jackson appears back as backup QB

It’s been widely expected that the Seahawks would bring back Tarvaris Jackson for another season as the team’s backup quarterback, and a couple of Tweets he sent tonight appear to indicate that has happened. Nothing is official from the team tonight, but looks like an announcement could be coming in the next day, given Jackson’s Tweets:

Jackson was an unrestricted free agent after returned to Seattle prior to last season after having been cut by Buffalo.

Jackson will be 31 in April, and at this point seems content with the backup spot, a role he filled ably last season, with a 140.2 passer rating in brief reserve appearances.

Assuming he’s back, he would be the fourth of the team’s 15 unrestricted free agents to return, joining defensive end Michael Bennett, tight end  Anthony McCoy and defensive tackle Tony McDaniel.

Jackson had an $840,000 salary cap hit last season and presumably again would be a relatively cheap backup while also returning as one of the most-respected players in the locker room.

B.J. Daniels, who was on both the active roster and the practice squad in 2013, is also under contract for 2014, so Seattle could be set at the QB spot — if it needs to be said, Russell Wilson will be back as the starter.

And count WR Doug Baldwin happy at the news:
