Veteran wide receiver Steve Smith told reporters on a conference call that the Seahawks were one of a handful of teams to show interest in him. Smith, on a call after signing a deal with the Baltimore Ravens, was released by the Panthers earlier this week.
Smith would have been a natural replacement in many ways for Golden Tate, who signed a five-year deal with the Lions this week. Smith was solid last season — his 14th, all with the Panthers — and had 64 catches for 745 yards. But those numbers were down considerably from his previous two seasons.
Smith will be 35 next season.
Steve Smith said he had a visit scheduled with New England, an offer from San Diego and interest from Washington + Seattle.
