Jared Allen visited Seahawks

A league source has confirmed to the Times what had been reported earlier by NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport — that free agent defensive end Jared Allen visited the Seahawks today.

Rapoport also reported that Allen is now at home, indicating that no decision is coming soon.

Jason LaConfora, meanwhile, reported that this is just the first of several planned trips for Allen, so it sounds like nothing is immediately imminent:

Allen has been one of the premier pass rushers during his 10-year career and has averaged 14.5 sacks over the last seven seasons.

But he turns 32 in April and there have been reports that he is willing to retire if he doesn’t get the deal he wants.

There have been earlier rumors that Seattle has had interest in Allen, and there were also reports near the trading deadline in October that the Seahawks might try to acquire to him then.

And the defensive line is the one known spot where the Seahawks have shown some aggressiveness in pursuing free agents, having earlier brought in the likes of Jason Hatcher and Henry Melton.

Seattle has obviously not been real active so far in free agency, signing only WR Taylor Price, who hasn’t played in two years due to injuries.

We’ll see what comes of this.
