Carroll on SiriusXM NFL Radio: “We’re very restricted in what we can do”

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll was a guest on SiriusXM NFL Radio today from the NFL Meetings in Orlando — you can listen to some of it here.

No huge news. Carroll was asked about Jared Allen and said that “we don’t have any date” for a signing and that “it’s a big business decision for him” and that “there’s really not much to comment on right now.”

He also reiterated that Seattle’s free agency plan has been to save money for some of the extensions it has to get done down the road.

“We’re very restricted in what we can do,” Carroll said. “We’ve got a lot of work on our roster. A lot of guys we’ve got to work with, and we are excited about extending. So we have a lot of concerns and everything is not really easy and we can’t move as swiftly as everyone would like.”

Carroll also talked about some of the proposed rules changes and said he doubted any of the really extreme ones will  pass, saying “I don’t think anything is going to change the game much.”

That includes moving the PAT line to the 25 and the kickoff to the 40. Of the former, he said “I can’t imagine they are going to change that.” And of the latter he said there will be few, if any, returns if kickoffs are moved to the 40 and that “I don’t think that’s what the league wants.”

He also said he would be in favor of all 53 players on the active roster being able to suit up on gameday, instead of the current 46.
