According to this story this morning in the Regina (Sask.) Leader-Post, the Seahawks have free agent signed deep snapper Jorgen Hus to a three-year contract. UPDATE — Seattle has since confirmed the signing of Hus and that he will wear No. 69.
As the story mentions, Hus was in camp with the Rams a year ago. During that stint, he gained a little bit of internet renown for this trick-shot video. This story further explains his background and the origin of that video.
And as that story also notes, if Hus were to make the team, he could give the Seahawks a rare all-Saskatchewan battery with its punting unit as punter Jon Ryan is also from Regina.
And as the story notes, Ryan and Hus are friends, stating:
The two have been friends since Hus volunteered at one of Ryan’s snapping and punting camps a few years ago.
They train together each summer at Sheldon-Williams Collegiate in the Saskatchewan capital city.
While Ryan wasn’t in Seattle on Wednesday, he did put in a good word with Seahawks special teams coordinator Brian Schneider over the phone.
“Jon is one of those rare people you can’t say enough good things about,” Hus said.
Hus will compete for the snapping duties with Clint Gresham, who has held the job since 2010.
Gresham last August agreed to a contract restructuring that gave him a two-year deal (so through the 2014 season) worth a total of $1.655 million.
