Report: Packers will play Seahawks to open season; and reports of Seahawks at 49ers for Thanksgiving

To get back to scheduling news, it appears that the Green Bay Packers will be the opponent when Seattle opens defense of its Super Bowl title on Thursday, Sept. 4 at CenturyLink Field.

Here’s a Tweet from Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel:

Green Bay had become the logical opponent for the Seahawks in what is the traditional Thursday opener for a defending Super Bowl champ as a few schedules began to leak and other possible foes became accounted for with other games. San Francisco, Dallas, Denver and the New York Giants — also all slated to play at Seattle this season — have already been reported to have games scheduled on the opening weekend.

The entire schedule will be released around 5 p.m.

UPDATE — There is also continuing speculation that the Seahawks will play at San Francisco on Thanksgiving night. We’ll find out for sure soon.
