Seahawks 2014 schedule released — Some quick thoughts

Okay, so Seattle’s 2014 regular season schedule has been announced. Here it is, with some quick thoughts of my own:

Thursday, Sept. 4: Green Bay Packers 5:30 p.m. NBC

Comment: Aaron Rodgers and one of the glamor teams in the NFL is a pretty good combination for the night the Seahawks begin defense of their Super Bowl title.

Sunday Sept. 14: at San Diego Chargers 1:05 p.m. FOX

Comment: Could be a sneaky tough game against a team that got better as last year wore on and after what is sure to be an emotional game against the Packers. But the extra few days of rest will help.

Sunday Sept. 21: Denver Broncos 1:25 p.m. CBS

Comment: Super Bowl rematch and the Broncos will undoubtedly want to put on a better showing than they did in February.

Sunday Sept. 28: Bye Week

Comment: Earliest bye week for Seattle since 2008.

Monday Oct. 6: at Washington Redskins 5:30 p.m. ESPN

Comment: Seahawks will have 15 days to prepare for this one, same as they did before Monday nighter last year against New Orleans. That turned out pretty well.

Sunday Oct. 12: Dallas Cowboys 1:25 p.m. FOX

Comment: Only second regular-season visit by Cowboys to Seattle since 2005. Seattle won last meeting at CLink 27-7 in 2012.

Sunday Oct. 19: at St. Louis Rams 10:00 a.m. FOX

Comment: Seahawks needed goal-line stand to escape with a win in St. Louis last year but have won seven of last nine there.

Sunday Oct. 26: at Carolina Panthers 10:00 a.m. FOX

Comment: In a quirk of the schedule, this is the third straight year Seahawks will travel to Charlotte. Have won the last two, but each in close games.

Sunday Nov. 2: Oakland Raiders 1:25 p.m. CBS

Comment: First regular-season visit by the Raiders since 2006 and only the second since Seattle moved out of AFC West following 2001 season.

Sunday Nov. 9: New York Giants 1:25 p.m. FOX

Comment: After brother Peyton visits in week three, Eli follows a little later looking for a better performance than last year, when Seahawks beat Giants 23-0 in New Jersey.

Sunday Nov. 16: at Kansas City Chiefs 10:00 a.m. FOX

Comment: By this time. we’ll know if Chiefs’ rise a year ago was a sign of a long-term return to being good or just a flash in the pan.

Sunday Nov. 23: Arizona Cardinals 1:05 p.m. FOX

Comment: No chance of Seattle looking past this one to the 49ers a few days later after the way the Cardinals pushed the Seahawks around at CenturyLink last year in becoming the only visitor to win there since 2011.

Thursday Nov. 27: at San Francisco 49ers 5:30 p.m. NBC

Comment: Seattle visits 49ers in Thanksgiving night prime time affair. Fourth Thanksgiving game in team history.

Sunday Dec. 7: at Philadelphia Eagles 1:25 p.m. FOX

Comment: Intriguing matchup of Seattle defense against Chip Kelly’s offense. Kelly beat Pete Carroll 47-20 in 2009 in their only collegiate meeting when Kelly was at Oregon and Carroll at USC.

Sunday Dec. 14: San Francisco 49ers 1:25 p.m. FOX

Comment: What are maybe the most intense rivals in the NFL will play for second time in 18 days following Thanksgiving game in the Bay Area.

Sunday Dec. 21: at Arizona Cardinals 5:30 p.m. NBC

Comment: For second straight year, Seattle will play its final regular season road game at the site of the Super Bowl.

Sunday Dec. 28: St. Louis Rams 1:25 p.m. FOX

Comment: Third straight year and fourth in the last five Seattle ends its season with a home game against the Rams. All have been critical to division or playoff hopes and this one could be, as well.
