The Cardinals drafted Washington State safety Deone Bucannon with the 27th pick in the first round. Bucannon is a heavy hitter who also had a knack for forcing turnovers. He should help solidify an Arizona defense that was one of the league’s toughest up front but needed some help in the secondary.
Bucannon is the first Washington State player to be drafted in the first round since the Seahawks drafted Marcus Trufant in 2003.
Bucannon picked off six passes last season and forced three fumbles. He was also a solid player on special teams and should play there right away.
Here is Bob Condotta’s story on Bucannon from the NFL Combine.
