It was an admittedly confusing few hours this afternoon trying to piece together what happened with the Garrett Scott situation.
So I’ll make a separate post here to update a few things,
First, here is my story for the paper and website that hopefully gives some clarity and perspective to it.
In talking with some people about this, it’s clear that this was a really good gesture by the Seahawks to make sure Scott is taken care of, a gesture the Seahawks were not obligated to do.
Also, the door is far from closed on Scott returning to the field someday, though that’s not necessarily the expectation.
As has been reported, he will be put on injured reserve once he clears waivers, so he will remain affiliated with the team and his situation will continue to be monitored. He’ll likely undergo more tests in a few months and then they’ll take it from there. As John Schneider’s statement read, he can’t play for the “near future.” But it’s not being ruled out that things could change down the road.
As for the financial numbers, still not completely clear what the total will be. I’ll pass that along when there’s some more clarity to that.
