Jesse Williams to IR, Marshawn Lynch takes field, and a couple other notes

The Seahawks announced this morning they placed defensive tackle Jesse Williams on injured reserve, released wide receiver Randall Carroll and signed linebacker Marcus Dowtin.

Dowtin originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the New York Jets after the 2012 NFL Draft. He has also played for the Philadelphia Eagles, Buffalo Bills and New York Giants. He has played in 11 career games with 10 tackles (eight solo).

The moves also leave room for Marshawn Lynch to be re-instated off the reserve/did not report list and put the roster at the NFL training camp maximum of 90. Lynch walked onto the field for the first time this training camp at about 10:30 a.m., doing so via a side exit.

The Seahawks also officially announced the placing of TE Anthony McCoy on IR and the signing of WR Ronald Johnson, which took place on Thursday.

Today’s news is especially disheartening for Williams, who suffered what coach Pete Carroll had called a serious knee injury in practice on Wednesday. Carroll said yesterday Williams would likely need surgery.
This will be his second straight season on the IR with knee issues, also missing his rookie year of 2013. He was a fifth-round pick out of Alabama in 2013.
The Seahawks are practicing without helmets and pads today, and going for just an hour or so, as they prepare for a scrimmage on Saturday.
So we won’t have the usual live practice blog today since this is something of a walk-through.
