Seahawks sign cornerback Josh Thomas to 53-man roster

The Seahawks today signed four-year veteran cornerback Josh Thomas to Seattle’s 53-man roster, taking the place created when the team placed Jeremy Lane on Injured Reserve with the designation to return.

Shaw spent the last three seasons with Carolina, where he played in 39 games with 10 starts.

Shaw worked out for the Seahawks Monday morning then signed his contract in the afternoon, joining the team midway through practice.

“I’m not really surprised, just in terms of having self-confidence as a player and in terms of being here, the guys have welcomed me with open arms,” Thomas said. “I’m excited.”

Thomas said he wants to show the Seahawks he can play either inside or outside, but the team’s obvious need is at nickelback, the spot where Lane played.

Seattle also has Marcus Burley at that spot. Burley played 25 snaps against the Packers after Lane was injured his groin in the third quarter.

Asked what he remembered of playing against the Seahawks a year ago, Thomas reminded reporters that he was the cornerback who got beaten by Jermaine Kearse’s fourth quarter touchdown that ultimately gave Seattle a 12-7 win.

“I remember 15 got the ball over me,” he said.

He said he has yet to talk with Kearse about that, but figures they will soon.
