Looking back and ahead with Pro Football Focus

Here are a bunch of notes, stats and links from Pro Football Focus with into on the Seattle Seahawks and this week’s opponent, the San Diego Chargers:

PFF Team of the Week

Marshawn Lynch with honorable mention at running back

Max Unger with honorable mention at center

Seattle Seahawks

  • Even though corner Byron Maxwell allowed nine receptions on 11 targets, quarterback Aaron Rodgers only had a 58.7 QB passer rating when throwing his direction.
  • Seahawks were tied for first in team rushing grade (+3.8), highlighted by center Max Unger’s +4.0 run blocking grade.
  • Wide receiver Percy Harvin ended the week leading receivers in rush attempts with four finishing with a +1.0 rushing grade.

San Diego Chargers

  • Philip Rivers had a rough Week 1. Out of starting quarterbacks, he finished in the bottom third of overall grade (-1.1), completion percentage (58.3%), and yards/attempt (6.6). However, he did have a league-leading 19.4% dropped pass rate.
  • Chargers received the third-worst team offensive rushing grade (-2.7).
  • Rookie cornerback Jason Verrett had an outstanding first game against Arizona grading as the second-best corner overall at +3.5. This included a league-best +3.3 pass coverage grade.

Signature Stats:

  • The Seahawks’ 88.3 PFF Signature Stat Pass Blocking Efficiency Signature Stat in Week 1 was better than cumulative 2013 figure of 77.6 PBE (14th in the league). Tackles Russell Okung and rookie Justin Britt allowed a combined one total QB pressure against Green Bay.
  • Cliff Avril lined up on the left for all 23 of his pass rushing snaps and essentially posted the best Pass Rushing Productivity for 4-3 DEs at 17.4 (the top player on the PRP list only played two snaps).
  • Linebacker Bobby Wagner made four run stops, earning a Run Stop % of 19.0. Out of inside linebackers, only Rolando McClain of Dallas posted a better rate.
