The referee for Monday night’s Seattle-Washington game is Jeff Triplette, according to FootballZebras.com.
And if you like penalties, then you may consider this good news — according to this analysis from ESPN, Triplette’s crew threw more flags last season than any other, 244.
Triplette has been a ref since 1999, so he’s done his share of Seahawks games through the years.
Seattle is 4-1 in games refereed by Triplette since 2010, when Pete Carroll took over as coach.
Maybe the most memorable recent Seahawks’ game refereed by Triplette was the regular season finale last season against the Rams, a game that came close to spiraling out of control due to a bevy of personal fouls, most on the Rams, who were flagged 12 times for 87 yards. That contributed to Triplette’s crew leading the NFL last year with 48 unsportsmanlike conduct penalties — 14 more than any other crew, according to the ESPN analysis.
Triplette also refereed the season-opening win last season at Carolina.
Triplette and his crew found themselves embroiled in controversy a couple of times last season, which raised a few eyebrows when he then got a playoff assignment (detailed here).
