Seahawks’ trade of Percy Harvin to Jets becomes official Saturday morning

Seattle’s trade of receiver Percy Harvin to the New York Jets became official Saturday morning.

The Jets announced the trade in a statement at 9 a.m. Seattle time reporting that they had acquired Harvin for an undisclosed draft pick. The pick is conditional, but there were multiple reports this morning, including from the NFL’s official web site, NFL.com, that it is a sixth-rounder in 2015 that can become a fourth-rounder.

“Percy is a versatile, dynamic player who has been productive on offense and special teams,” said Jets GM John Idzik in the statement. “We’re excited about adding him to the Jets.”

The Seahawks shortly after released their own statement confirming the trade, including this quote from general manager John Schneider: “Although this was an extremely difficult decision, we are constantly evaluating our team and believe at this time, that this is in our best interest to move the team forward. We thank Percy for his efforts that contributed to a Super Bowl XLVIII victory and wish him well.”

The Seahawks also posted this story on their web site about the trade, including a graphic noting Russell Wilson’s numbers with and without Harvin on the field (no surprise: it shows him as doing better without Harvin).

Harvin was expected to have flown from Seattle to New York Saturday morning for a physical.

Mike Garafolo of FoxSports reported that Harvin is excited about being dealt to the Jets:
