Ed Hochuli to referee Seattle-Oakland game

The Seattle-Oakland game may not be the most high-profile of the weekend. But it will feature maybe the best-known ref in the NFL — Ed Hochuli — who has been assigned to the game, according to FootballZebras.com.

Hochuli, whose physique and talkative nature makes him a hard one to miss, once appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated.

Of late, Seattle can’t complain about Hochuli’s presence as the Seahawks have won the last four games he has refereed, including the most recent, a 34-7 regular-season victory over the Saints on a Monday night last December (here’s Hochuli’s complete record).

And for those who like their flags — doesn’t everybody? — in ESPN’s most recent tabulations, Hochuli’s crew is tied for calling the third-most penalties per game, 19.3.
