Saturday morning Seahawks links and notes: Seattle third-largest home favorite in franchise history

Because Seattle had a few big point spreads last year, it didn’t feel like as big of a deal this week when the Seahawks opened as prohibitive favorites against the Raiders.

But now that the line has settled at 14.5  it’s worth noting that that ties for the third-highest spread in Seattle history.

Seattle was a 20-point favorite at home last season against Jacksonville, a game the Seahawks won 45-17, and a 15-point favorite on Dec. 21, 2003 against Arizona, a 28-10 victory for Seattle.

The Seahawks were also a 14.5-point favorite against Tampa Bay at home last season, a game that has been referenced often this week as that was the day when the Bucs jumped out to a 21-0 lead before Seattle came roaring back for a 27-24 overtime win (here are all of the betting lines from last season for reference).

PreGame.com also noted this week that the spread for Seattle is the largest ever for a 4-3 team.

In other links and notes this morning. …

Jayson Jenks writes about Paul Richardson.

— Here’s our notebook on Seattle’s injury situation.

In a quote that didn’t make the story, when Max Unger was asked about whether the turf at Washington had anything to do with his injury, he said: “No it didn’t. I just dinged my foot and it’s been a long  road back.”

As the story also notes, Seattle is down to three healthy safeties for the game — Earl Thomas, Steven Terrell and DeShawn Shead. Seattle could also make a roster move to add a safety, specifically Terrance Parks off of practice squad. Rookie Eric Pinkins has also been practicing with the team on a roster exempt status. But the team would also have to make a move to bring  him up, as well. Of those two, Parks would seem the more likely option if they had to go that route. Pinkins is on the PUP list but is in a three-week period where the can practice with the team. After that period, which began Oct. 15, he has to be activated or put on IR for the rest of the year.
