Marshawn Lynch tells NFL.com he doesn’t know what the future holds

Seattle running back Marshawn Lynch did not talk to the media at-large following Sunday’s loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

But he did talk to NFL.com, the league’s official website, and said he doesn’t know if he will be back next season. Here’s the story.

The quote that is sure to get a lot of attention is this one, when Lynch was asked if he thinks he’ll be back next year:

“Do I think I’ll be gone after this season?” Lynch repeated, pausing to consider the question. “I don’t know, man. The Seahawks, their front office gets in the media; they talk a lot. I don’t talk too much. I just play the game.

“If they have something going on, I don’t know about it.”

The story also attempts to explain why Lynch didn’t go into the Seattle locker room at halftime, with former Seahawk and current NFL Network analyst Michael Robinson reporting that Lynch said “he couldn’t walk.”

While the story is headlined to say that Lynch “expresses frustration” it also contains quotes from Lynch stating that he still believes the Seahawks can turn their season around.

Lynch is quoted as saying: “Is this a championship team? Yeah, yeah, we’ve got the heart of a champion. When you’ve got players like Richard Sherman, Earl Thomas, Kam Chancellor — you’re about to make me name the whole damn roster — aand there’s some young guys whose names a lot of people don’t know who bring a lot of fight. I always look at the best of our team. So … hell yeah. I would have to be a fool to say no.”

The story also states:

As the Seahawks‘ bus headed toward the Kansas City airport, Lynch gave a final thought: “The main thing I just want to be communicated is that we played a hard-fought game, and it didn’t go our way. Everything else, you just let it fall into place.”

As noted earlier, Lynch is reportedly facing fines of up to $100,000 for not talking to the media. So it’s possible he gave this interview with that in mind.

Lynch has not talked to the general media after most games this season.
