Holmgren, Knox, Alexander miss Hall of Fame cut; Mawae, James make it

The Pro Football Hall of Fame pared its list of finalists tonight for the Class of 2015 from 125 to 26, and among those not making the cut were former Seahawks coaches Mike Holmgren and Chuck Knox and running back Shaun Alexander.

Among those who did make it were two players who had stints with the Seahawks — center Kevin Mawae and running back Edgerrin James. Here’s the complete list of those who made it.

Mawae was drafted by Seattle in 1994 and played four years with Seattle before being signed away in free agency (I wrote this about Mawae last spring).

James is known largely for his years with the Indianapolis Colts, and to a lesser extent his stint with the Cardinals. But he actually played the final seven games of his NFL career with the Seahawks in 2009 (here are his career stats).

Two others who also had Seahawk ties failed to make the cut — coach Tom Flores and running back Ricky Watters.

One coach who has ties to the city of Seattle did make the cut, though — Don Coryell. Coryell played at the University of Washington, but is best-known for his coaching stints in the 1970s and 1980s with the St. Louis Cardinals and San Diego Chargers.
