Nate Semmler, 10, shows off his specially designed prosthetic leg that pays homage to his favorite team and player.

Name: Nate Semmler

Age: 10 years old

Resides: Boise, Idaho

School:  Fourth-grader at Pepper Ridge Elementary

Family: Mother Mary, father Chad, step-mother Crystal, sister Erin, 14; brother Ben, 13; step-brother  Jex, 7.

Seahawks fan for:  Several years. Nate loves football and really got into the Seahawks a few years ago when the defense made a name for itself. Now he’s obsessed. “I’m their BIGGEST fan!” he says of the Seahawks.

Favorite Seahawk: Richard Sherman.  “He is awesome and is the best defensive player in the NFL!  Plus he’s a really good trash-talker.”

Nate’s story: Nate lost his leg shortly after birth due to a large tumor. He resisted wearing a prosthetic for a long time, so to inspire him to wear it, his family designed a leg with the name and likeness of Nate’s favorite player, Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman. After reconnecting with a friend she hadn’t seen in years, Nate’s mother Mary learned the friend worked for Safeway, the official grocer of the Seahawks. A meeting between Nate and Sherman was arranged to take place Saturday at the Seahawks’ headquarters in Renton. Mary calls it “a dream come true” for her son.

Nate3Memorable moment:  Nate’s family waited until after a physical-therapy appointment Oct. 31 to tell him he will get to meet his favorite Seahawk. He was nearly speechless. “It took awhile to sink in,” Mary says. “Now he’s talking about it all the time.” Safeway is taking care of the trip, and the Seahawks will provide three tickets to Sunday’s Seahawks-Cardinals game at CenturyLink Field for Nate, his mom and his older brother Ben. It’s the first NFL game for all three. …  Not surprisingly, Nate’s favorite Seahawks game was their 43-8 victory over the Denver Broncos in the Super Bowl last February. “They have the No. 1 defense and they totally dominated Denver!” Nate says.

Fast facts: Despite having only one leg, Nate is an amazing athlete. “He loves playing football and baseball,” Mary said. “Nothing slows this kid down.”  Nate also loves playing “Madden” on his Xbox.

Prediction: Seahawks 50, Cardinals 35: Though most experts expect a close, relatively low-scoring game, Nate thinks otherwise. “The Seattle Seahawks will TOTALLY win this weekend! Especially because they are at home.”
