Seattle made a practice squad roster move today, re-signing OL Andrew McDonald, creating space for his return by terminating the contract of DT Jimmy Staten, who was a sixth-round pick in 2014.
McDonald was released off the 53-man roster earlier in the week when the team brought back C Lemuel Jeanpierre.
As for Staten, he had been on the practice squad since Aug. 31, after having been released in the cutdown to 53.
He could obviously return to the practice squad, as these things tend to yo-yo quite a bit.
But his release means that at the moment two of Seattle’s nine picks in the 2014 draft are not with the team — Staten and FB Kiero Small (on Baltimore’s practice squad). Also, OL Garrett Scott is on the reserve non-football injury list after being waived in the spring with a heart condition, as is DB Eric Pinkins, who had foot surgery during camp and after a three-week window in which he could practice with the team, was put back on the injury list.
Staten was taken with the 172d overall pick out of Middle Tennessee State.
