Seahawks personnel updates and Carroll video

Not a ton of big personnel news from Pete Carroll’s press conference today, but here are the highlights:

— Carroll said the team has yet to fill the open spot on its 53-man roster created when defensive back Luchioz Purifoy failed his physical earlier this week. So Seattle remains with 52 players. The spot has to be filled 24 hours prior to kickoff for a player to be eligible in the game.

— Carroll said tight end Cooper Helfet would not practice today and remains day-to-day, but added that they would need to see what they get out of him the next two days to know if he can play on Sunday.

— Carroll said he is encouraged by the progress of center Max Unger but that he will not practice today indicating he is likely again out this week. Unger has been out the last two weeks with ankle/knee injuries that were originally considered to keep him out 3-4 weeks.

— Carroll said CB Jeremy Lane will practice this week, indicating he will be able to play Sunday after missing the 49ers game with a glute injury. Without Lane, Seattle moved Byron Maxwell inside and had Tharold Simon play outside when the team went to a nickel against the 49ers.

— Carroll also talked at length about his relationship with Philadelphia quarterback Mark Sanchez, and some other stuff, which I will pass along later.

Here’s video of the first four minutes or so of Carroll’s press conference today:
