Carroll says Okung will return to practice this week

The Seahawks will not hold their usual Monday press conference with coach Pete Carroll today due to a condensed holiday schedule.

So all we’ll get for today in the way of personnel updates are those Carroll offered on his radio show this morning on ESPN 710 Seattle.

Carroll said Russell Okung should practice Wednesday.

As for center Max Unger, Carroll said again he has a high ankle sprain, today adding also that “he’s got one of the long term ones.” But he said he talked to Unger on the flight back from Arizona and that Unger is “going to try to get through it” and play this week. “We’ll wait and see,” Carroll said.

As for injuries suffered Sunday, Carroll said CB Tharold Simon suffered a shoulder injury but that he doesn’t know if he will be back this week, saying they’ll have to see how Simon responds.

As for Jermaine Kearse, Carroll sounded pessimistic about his availability this week, saying that Kearse “felt his hamstring” but that he was “shut down” before it was the big pop. But he said they’ll she to wait and see on him and that “that’s really touch-and-go to get back in a week’s time there.”

As did offensive line coach Tom Cable last night, Carroll mentioned that James Carpenter was battling an injury all week, as well (though he didn’t specify what it was — Carpenter missed games earlier this season with a sprained ankle). ┬áBut Carpenter ended up starting and playing.
