Friday Seahawks links: Seattle back at it in quest for NFC West

After taking yesterday off to celebrate Christmas — as an aside, hope it was great for you and yours — the Seahawks will be back at work today in an attempt to clinch what coach Pete Carroll has long maintained is the only goal the team ever talks about during the season.

That would be the NFC West.

Carroll says everything the team wants to do in a season starts there, so in taking it one step at a time, that is the only thing the team ever mentions out loud during the season.

Carroll said that again this morning during his weekly Friday radio show on KIRO-97.3 in Seattle, saying “that is the one goal and the only goal we talk about.”

Carroll says that’s because things like homefield advantage and the No. 1 seed can’t come unless the team wins the NFC West — so start with the NFC West first.

Seattle has to best St. Louis (or see Arizona lose to the 49ers, but winning it on the field is always the preferred method and since the games are at the same time Seattle won’t know its situation) to win the West for what would be the third time during the Carroll era,

The Seahawks remain as much as a 13-point favorite to beat the Rams, which is threatening what is the largest spread of the season in favor of Seattle — 13.5 at home against the Raiders. The Seahawks have been a good beat of late, though, covering in their last ¬†five games and six of the last seven to turn around what was an early me-di-o-cre start against the number.

The blog was also a little light for a few days to celebrate the holidays. But like the Seahawks, we’re back at it again today, too, and the blog will be back to its usual activity levels. For now, here are a few links. …
