Seahawks release DT Travian Robertson

The Seahawks just announced they have released defensive tackle Travian Robertson from the 53-man roster today.

They did not announce a corresponding move to fill that slot, but will undoubtedly do so by at least Saturday afternoon, which would be the deadline for another player to be able to see action Sunday against the Rams.

Possibly the Seahawks are looking to add a receiver with both Jermaine Kearse and Chris Matthews ailing with injures. Neither practiced on Wednesday — each is dealing with hamstring injuries.

Seattle has one receiver on its practice squad roster, Douglas McNeil, who was signed on Tuesday.

Kearse and Matthews each fill a number of roles on special teams, as well, so Seattle could be looking for someone to fill in those spots if each of those players is out this week.

Robertson was signed off of Atlanta’s practice squad on Nov. 18 as the Seahawks were looking for some depth at nose tackle with Brandon Mebane out. But Robertson played in only one game — on Nov. 23 against Arizona, making one assisted tackle.

He had not been active since then.

Seattle has added DL depth since the signing of Robertson with the addition of DL David King, who has played the last two games, including getting a sack Sunday against Arizona.
