Sunday Seahawks links and notes: Lots on the line Sunday

I’m doubting I really have to tell many of you reading this what is on the line for the Seahawks Sunday against the Rams.

Still, one of our jobs here is to try to put it all in perspective for a general audience. So it’s with that in mind that the focus of our preview story for the Sunday paper is an look at all that’s at stake for Seattle against the Rams — the NFC West, the No. 1 seed, and homefield through the playoffs.

As Seattle coach Pete Carroll said Friday, the NFC West is the only stated goal for the Seahawks each season since it is the gateway to all else that the team hopes to achieve. So that’s the task today. As Carroll views it, there’ll be a lot of time later to discuss what happens afterward.

It would be the second straight division title, the third in five years under Carroll and ninth for the franchise overall.

So for now, here we go with some links to set you up for today. …

  • Jayson Jenks on Michael Bennett.
  • The NFL column attempting to put Seattle’s recent winning streak in some perspective.

  • And Seahawks.com with where and how to follow the game today.
  • NFL.com says Seattle has a 50 percent chance of the No. 1 seed and a 25 percent of the No. 3 and No. 5 seeds, basically the only seeds Seattle can get barring the Green Bay-Detroit tie scenario.
  • And NFL.com with a reminder of how the playoff picture would look if the season ended now.
  • NFL.com lists Seattle defensive coordinator Dan Quinn and offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell each among its top 10 head coaching candidates. That’ll start to be something to watch Monday when a few head coaches will inevitably be fired.
