Carolina may have to make switch at receiver before game against Seattle

The Carolina Panthers have wrapped up their week of practice in Charlotte and are now heading to Seattle this afternoon for Saturday’s game against the Seahawks.

The Panthers will work out Friday in Seattle, and as ESPN notes in this story, that could be a key practice as the team seeks to solve its most pressing injury question heading into the game — the health of receiver Philly Brown.

The rookie from Ohio State was inactive when the Panthers played the Seahawks in October due to injury. But since then he has been a key part of the team’s revival regarded as the team’s fastest receiver.

He hurt his shoulder late in the playoff win against Arizona last week, however, and his status is uncertain enough that the team could make a roster move to replace him, as the linked ESPN story details, possibly adding Stephen Hill, a former second-round pick of the Jets.

Otherwise, as the ESPN story notes, the Panthers don’t have a lot of significant injury issues other than having already ruled out DT Star Lotulelei due to a broken foot.

As ESPN writes, backup cornerback Melvin White was listed as a full participant and backup free safety Thomas DeCoud limited. Otherwise, the team is healthy.
