ESPN reports Todd Bowles as new head coach of the Jets

ESPN is reporting that Arizona defensive coordinator Todd Bowles will be the new head coach of the New York Jets.

That’s obviously relevant here because there had been a lot of thought that Seattle defensive coordinator Dan Quinn was the front-runner for the job.

But with Quinn potentially tied up and unable to be hired until the Super Bowl is over on Feb. 1, the Jets have made their move to get Bowles, who had also become a fast-rising name this season as the coordinator of an Arizona defense that was the most significant reason the Cardinals led the NFC West for much of the season and finished 11-5.

As for Quinn, he has reportedly interviewed for four other jobs — the 49ers, Falcons and Bears, and it’s also thought that the Broncos may be interested.

So it’s far from a sure thing that Quinn returns to Seattle next season. But for tonight, it appears the Jets are off the table.
