Seattle favored to win Super Bowl — Wait, maybe New England is

So early lines for the Super Bowl are out and they show far from a consensus.

As the VegasInsider.com lines show Seattle is favored by a point at some places, with the Patriots favored by a point at others with the line a pick ’em at some others.

So,  basically the call is for a close game with one or the other favored by a point or two. This will hardly be Colts by 18 over the Jets in Super Bowl III, in other words.

Here are some additional betting line notes from PreGame.com:

Super Bowl Spread:

New England Patriots pick’em vs. Seattle Seahawks
(“pick’em” means the spread is 0 – so the bettor must simply pick the winner)

Over/Under Total: 48.5 points

Seattle opened as a 2.5 point favorite, but HEAVY New England action early resulted in the spreads move to pick’em.

It will be interesting to see if one team becomes the favorite as gameday approaches … since the favorite has won 33 of the prior 48 Super Bowls (69%)

Only 5 prior Super Bowls have been so close that the spread was LESS THAN a field goal.

Big Trend

NFL teams scoring 40+ points in the playoffs (like New England did Sunday)
are on a 4-23 Against The Spread losing run their next game.

Super Bowl Action:

An estimated $10 BILLION is projected to be bet on Super Bowl XLIX worldwide!
Over HALF of adult Americans are expected to have some money at risk on the game.
Less than 1% of the total amount bet is expected to be wagered legally in Nevada.
