Seattle Seahawks also a big hit on TV

While Seattle’s 28-22 overtime win over Green Bay for the NFC Championship may have been full of surprises, here’s something that’s not — the huge TV rating the game drew locally.

The Seahawks at this point can be depended on to monopolize TV sets when they play any game, let alone a big one, and that happened again Sunday as the contest drew a 52.3 rating  in the Seattle-Tacoma market (the percentage of all TV sets tuned to the game) and an 86 share (the percentage of all TV set in use at the time tuned to the game), according to figures from KCPQ-13, the local FOX affiliate which televised the game.

That’s despite some power outages that may have impacted ratings, and also doesn’t take into account all those who might have watched at bars or other public settings.

Those numbers are comparable to the 53.9 rating and 85 share the NFC title game got a year ago (which was in a later time slot, when usually more people are watching).

The rating and share for the NFC title game are the highest of the year for the Seahawks.

Last Saturday’s playoff win over Carolina drew a 53.1 rating and 80 share in the Seattle-Tacoma market in the 5:15 p.m. time slot on KCPQ-13.

Here are rating and share numbers for regular season Seattle games:

St. Louis, Dec. 28: 46.1, 78

Arizona, Dec. 21: 51.9, 77

San Francisco, Dec. 14: 45.3, 80

Philadelphia, Dec. 7: 44.3, 76

San Francisco, Nov. 27: 35.5, 74
