Seahawks fan buzz: New bike might make those Packers-fan tears go away

A video showing a 6-year-old Green Packers fan crying after the team’s loss to the Seahawks on Sunday has been a hit on YouTube. Now it looks like things might be looking up for the little guy.

First, watch the video:

A particularly sad moment in the video is when the boy sees Michael Bennett of the Seahawks riding around the stadium on a Seattle Police bike: “And look now they have a bicycle!” the boy exclaims amid tears.

“Once I saw it I was like ‘I gotta do something for that kid,'” says Michael Uetz, co-owner of Voxx Coffee in Seattle. He contacted the boy’s mother via messaging on YouTube, confirmed that he didn’t already have a bike, and arranged to have a shiny new one shipped to the family tomorrow, he said Tuesday.

All Uetz asked for in return is that the boy’s mother post a video of the youngster riding the new bike. “It’s exciting to do something like that for someone,” Uetz said.

When the Seahawks staged their amazing comeback to earn a trip to the Super Bowl on Sunday, lots of fans yelled in joy, maybe hugged their friends or gave thanks to a higher power. Not these guys.

Sam Tabbutt and his pals, all seniors at Seattle Prep, rejoiced by wading out into the cool waters of Puget Sound. From left to right in the picture are Corey Johnson, Sam Tabbutt, Sam Kopf, Joey Padon and Andy Reischling.

By the way, the current water temperature in the Sound is about 50 degrees. Brrrrrrr! (Hat tip to news partner West Seattle Blog for this item.)

We love this T-shirt commemorating Michael Bennett’s victory lap around CenturyLink  on a police bicycle after the Seahawks‘ surprising win. You can get one at TeeChip.com. Prodded about the bike, Bennett said, “I took it. When you win a Super Bowl, you can do anything in this city.” Seattle police weren’t too concerned.

War-torn flag

Folks at the Space Needle took down the weather-beaten 12th Man flag on Monday, but a new 25-foot-by-35-foot flag will be raised before the Super Bowl, according to a news release.

Watch later in the week for information about where the old flag will be on display.
