Report: Marshawn Lynch, Seahawks could be penalized for crotch grab in Super Bowl

Seattle’s Marshawn Lynch has been fined twice in recent weeks for an obscene gesture — specifically, grabbing his crotch — after scoring touchdowns.

Now, it appears the NFL wants to send an even stronger message about its desire that Lynch not repeat that act by reportedly informing the Seahawks that if Lynch makes an obscene gesture in the Super Bowl, Seattle will be penalized 15 yards.

The linked story notes that NFL Vice President of Officiating Dean Blandino told ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio of the NFL’s message to the Seahawks about the possible penalties if Lynch continues with his gesture.

Both Lynch and receiver Chris Matthews were fined after Lynch performed that move after scoring on a 24-yard touchdown in the NFC Championship game last week. Some viewed the fine given to Matthews as a message being sent to Lynch and the team about the league’s seriousness on this matter.

Lynch was fined $20,000 and Matthews $11,025 for their actions in the win over the Packers.
