Bill Belichick: ‘The only thing I’m focused on is the Seattle Seahawks’

The eighth day of New England’s deflated football controversy brought a report from Fox Sports that the NFL has zeroed in on a locker room attendant as a “person of interest.”

Patriots owner Robert Kraft used the opening moments of the Patriots’ media availability on Monday in Arizona to both address the report and challenge it, saying he stood by both coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady. Kraft went even further, saying he expected an apology from the National Football League if its investigation led nowhere.

“I believe unconditionally that the New England Patriots have done nothing inappropriate in this process or in violation of any NFL rules,” Kraft said.

Belichick and the rest of the Patriots made it clear that — report or no report — a page had been turned.

“I’ve spent, as you know, quite a bit of time (on this),” Belichick said. “I’ve had two lengthy press conferences on that already. My attention has turned onto the Seattle Seahawks and that’s where it’s going to stay the rest of the week.

“The only thing I’m focused on is the Seattle Seahawks. That’s all I’m going to discuss.”

On the Seahawks themselves, Belichick was more than complimentary, with praise not only for coach Pete Carroll but for the organization as a whole.

“They’re an impressive football team in every phase of the game, from the line and the skill players back,” Belichick said. “… Offensively, defensively and in special teams.”
