AZ postcard: Free sunscreen for the masses

Here’s something I haven’t seen in Seattle: Free sunscreen dispensers set up in downtown Phoenix for “Super Bowl Central,” a collection of concerts, football-related exhibits, beer garden and a chance to get autographs from former NFL players.

Admission is free, but there are charges for some features, such as the $5 climbing wall designed to give people a little taste of the Grand Canyon. There’s even a nine-block area in which people can wander around with alcoholic drink in hand, a la New Orleans.

Today and Thursday are forecast to be the warmest days of the week, with highs in the upper 70s. Puget Sounders may feel more at home on Friday and Saturday, with highs in the low 60s and chance of showers.

On Sunday, Super Bowl XLIX game day, the forecast is calling for a high of 70, low of 49 and a 10 percent chance of rain.
