Video: Russell Wilson and Pete Carroll discuss the late interception

Russell Wilson blames himself and Pete Carroll stands by the play call after the Seahawks lose to the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLIX. Video by Lauren Frohne / The Seattle Times

Here’s some video of Pete Carroll and Russell Wilson discussing the late interception that ended the Seahawks’ victory hopes.

Here’s another quote from Wilson on it

“The last play we had a formation where we could throw it on them. Lockette was coming underneath and the guy made a great play. That’s really what it comes down to – the guy just made a great play. I think it was Butler who made the catch, I’m not sure. I had a chance, was looking and then he kind of cut in front of it and made a play. I thought it was a touchdown, honestly. Unfortunate situation, man.”

And a different quote Carroll:

“Here’s the deal, we sent our guys on the field, wide receivers on the field, spread them out, they ran their goal line, they sent all their big guys out there. At that moment, I didn’t want to waste a run play against their goal line guys. Throw the ball, we’ll come in on third and fourth down and we can match up. It’s a really a clear thought. It wasn’t something that happened. It was a clear thought, but it didn’t work out right.”
