Seattle coach Pete Carroll talked to the media for a while this morning in Phoenix before the team boarded buses to the airport, and what figures to be a quiet flight home to Seattle.
There’s some video of the first few minutes below, including overall thoughts on the game and an answer to a question about the final play. I’ll pass along more complete quotes later.
For now, a few highlights:
— Carroll gave basically the same answer to the question of what happened on the final play as he did last night. He said he has yet to watch it and denied a report that Darrell Bevell initially called a run and he changed it. Carroll said he told Bevell to throw it after seeing the personnel alignments for each team.
— Carroll confirmed that Richard Sherman will need Tommy John surgery on his elbow but said he should be back for the start of the season (keep in mind that this won’t be as long of a recovery since he doesn’t have to pitch, he just needs the elbow to heal).
— Carroll also said Kam Chancellor gave a “superhuman” effort to play and said his knee injury may be related to an old one and that he may need surgery.
— Earl Thomas may also need shoulder surgery, Carroll said. But he said all three players should be ready for the 2015 season.
— Jeremy Lane suffered a break of his arm but Carroll said he recover in time for the 2015 season.
