What’s better than winning a Super Bowl? Seattle cornerback Richard Sherman has a good answer for that question.

“My son sure does know how to make an entrance! 2/5/15… Is it a coincidence or is he just that clever?! Either way I’m ecstatic,” the Seahawks cornerback tweeted early Thursday.

Sherman and his girlfriend, Ashley Moss, weren’t expecting the baby until Feb. 12.

Sports Illustrated reporter Peter King said the baby’s name is Rayden in a congratulatory tweet Thursday morning. Hope coach Pete Carroll isn’t horribly disappointed.  Last week he said, “Can’t wait to see little Petey.”

On Facebook Thursday afternoon, Sherman added, “Haven’t felt anything better than this! Thank you God such a blessing! And thank you 12s for all the love and support.”

Sherman revealed that his girlfriend, a Mercer Island native who began dating Sherman after he became a Seahawk in 2011, was pregnant during the Super Bowl, leading to much discussion of whether he would face a conflict with playing in the game.

Sherman ended up facing no decision — Moss attended the Super Bowl — and said after the game he was surprised at the reaction.

“I didn’t think it was that big of a deal,” he said. “He’s close, but he’s not expected to come this weekend. So, I was surprised at how big. But I guess in a game like this, a story like that, you can’t pass it up. I was surprised it was a national headline, more than anything.”

Sherman turns 27 on March 30 and just concluded his fourth season with the Seahawks. After establishing himself as one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL, he signed a four-year extension last May carrying him through the 2018 season that guarantees him $40 million.

Asked at the Super Bowl if he was looking forward to the season ending and being able to spend time with his child, he said: “I am looking forward to it. It’s one of those things, it will be a life-changing. I’m looking forward to having a chance to raise my son and meet everybody, and teach him things that I know.”

Teammate Russell Wilson was among those to congratulate Sherman via Twitter:
