Seahawks coach Pete Carroll on Today Show: “It was the worst result of a call ever”

NBC’s Today Show aired an interview this morning with Seahawks coach Pete Carroll, which judging by the answers was conducted a few days ago, attempting to get at what happened at the end of the Super Bowl.

Carroll’s version of what led to the final play call isn’t really any different, but because it’s a lengthy sit-down interview there are some added details, largely in regards to Carroll’s reaction to it and what has happened since then (as a side note, Matt Lauer seems pretty upset that Carroll isn’t more despondent about it all. But if you know Carroll, you won’t be too surprised at his attempt to spin this forward as much as possible).

You can watch it all here as well as read a transcription of some quotes.

Asked if it’s the worst call ever, Carroll says “it was the worst result of a call ever.”

But he reiterated what he said after the game — that Seattle was going to pass at some point in the sequence due to where the clock was and the Seahwks’ time out situation, and that the matchup of the personnel group the Seahawks had on the field versus what the Patriots had on the field made it make sense to call the pass there.
