Players of the game
Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch rushed 18 times for 100 yards, his fourth consecutive game with a triple-digit rushing total. He ran for 1,590 yards in 16 games this season, third-highest total in franchise history.
Play of the game
Seattle’s game-winning scoring drive could have stopped after just two plays as Lynch lost the ball at his own 18. The ball rolled through the legs of the Rams’ Michael Brockers, then resulted in a heck of a dog pile only to have Seattle receiver Golden Tate emerge not only with the ball, but a first down. “My favorite play of the day,” coach Pete Carroll said afterward.
Seattle faced third-and-5 at its own 27 with 3:19 left in the fourth quarter, the Rams brought pressure up the gut of Seattle’s offensive line only to have Wilson duck to evade a rusher, scramble right and throw a perfectly placed pass to Tate for a 44-yard gain.
• Seattle did not score in the first quarter, ending a string of 13 consecutive periods in which the Seahawks scored at least seven points. It was the first time since the third quarter of the Seahawks’ Dec. 2 game at Chicago.
• Russell Wilson was sacked three times in the first quarter, more than he had been sacked in any of the previous five games. The Rams had five sacks in the first half alone. Seattle hadn’t given up more than four sacks in any of its first 15 games.
• Seattle attempted an onside kick in the third quarter, the second time the Seahawks tried it against the Rams. Seattle recovered this one, but didn’t gain possession because safety Kam Chancellor touched the ball too soon. The kicking team must wait 10 yards before touching the ball and Chancellor was only 9 yards downfield when he jumped, giving the Rams possession.

Rams LB Rocky McIntosh suffered a concussion in the first half and did not return. DT Michael Brockers left the game because of an ankle injury, but returned in the fourth quarter.Seahawks LB K.J. Wright left the game with an undisclosed injury in the third quarter but returned on the next series.
Quarterback Russell Wilson: “Obviously we have been winning by a lot in terms of points and everything. To go into the playoffs in a game like that, where you come down to the fourth quarter, the last drive of the game, to finish like we did is great. I think that was huge.”
