Welcome to scooter town, zip, zip

It seems to me that there are more scooters in Seattle every day. It’s starting to look like Barcelona, where I grew up. In Spain people zip on their scooters left and right. As far as urban transportation goes, scooters rule.
Steve Calvo, the sales manager at the Vespa dealership at Denny Way told me that Seattle usually ranks third or fourth in the number of scooters per capita in the U.S., after Boston, San Francisco and New York. He said people like them because they’re fun to ride and easy to park. “I can park my scooter anywhere I want to go. You just sneak it in.”
And that’s exactly what a fellow did with his as I was finishing my sketch of this orange Stella at Western Avenue yesterday afternoon.
All the power to scooter drivers for parking anywhere, but I hope we start seeing more designated parking for scooters too.
