Last Saturday I went to the Ballard Locks with my sketch group. I’m told that this is a good time of the year to go visit the fish ladder. Coho salmon are on their journey upstream from the salt waters of the Sound.
I love the fact that someone had the vision to create the fish ladder when the locks were built in the 1910s. Without it, the salmon’s life cycle would have been completely disrupted.
I also love the fact that when they rebuilt it in 1976 they added this viewing area where I sketched. Not only is fun to see the fish through the glass, It’s a great educational experience.
