Sketched July 4th, 10:46 p.m.
I’ve lived in three countries and four different states, but I have never been so close to a pyrotechnics display similar to what takes place in my street for 4th of July.
My kids were looking forward to the festivities and stayed up later than ever. We all enjoyed celebrating America’s birthday with our neighbors.
How was your 4th of July?
Thanks to everyone who wrote with compliments about my South Park story.
Ally Vincent, of Bellingham, shared a link to this blog post with sketches done by her mom, Susan DeCano, during her last shift “on the dear old bridge.”
“I was so pleased to see you were the journalist and artist to do a final piece on the South Park Bridge. My mother and brother were both bridge tenders on that bridge.”
With so much interesting feedback I get from readers, I’ll try to do a “fan mail” update every now and then. It’s a waste to keep gems like Vincent’s message in my inbox! Feel free to email me at gcampanario at seattle times dot com. You can also follow me on Twitter and Facebook.
