If you haven’t been to Freeway park, you may think I just made this sketch up. What’s this forest surrounded by skyscrapers? And that cascading waterfall?
This labyrinth of concrete and greenery bridges over I-5 connecting First Hill and downtown. I usually drive under it, but this morning I took a walk through it for the first time, starting at Paul Pigott Memorial Corridor at 9th Avenue and University St.
Neighbor Joan Carufel had the perfect description for what I was seeing. “This is an oasis,” she said. “It’s the breathing space for downtown Seattle.”
Stay tuned to see the sketches I did after finishing up my tall latte.
