Flying across the Atlantic is no picnic. Every time I go to the Old Continent it takes me about 18 hours since I leave my house until I land in Barcelona, where most of my extended family lives. But I don’t mind the long wait times, the scanners or going through customs. I just marvel at the fact that I can travel nearly 6,000 miles in less than a day — and even see where I am on a TV screen in front of me.
For an interesting read on the “glory days” of flying, check out today’s column by Nicole Brodeur, “A taste of pie from the old sky.” Former Pan Am stewardess Paula Clark tells Brodeur that nowadays “flying is like going to the bus station.”
