Fast sketch of a fast car

It’s been a while since the last time I shared work from my pocket sketchbooks here. These sketches are quite fun to make. They are unplanned, purely spontaneous and done without the pressure of having to put them in the newspaper on Saturday!

The spread above comes from my 3.5″ x 5.5″ Moleskine journal (The gray one in the photo below.) It shows a sketch-worthy subject I found while on vacation in North Carolina last week: a Dale Earnhardt Sr. tribute race car.

Motor sports are not my cup of tea, but who could resist drawing a real race car up close? The car serves as an interesting static sculpture at the entrance of Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium in Kannapolis.
