Adding watercolor to a line sketch

commute sketch rgb

If you follow my work, you can probably tell that I usually add watercolor to line drawings made with waterproof ink.

Above you can see an example: a minimal line sketch drawn during my commute, and the result after adding watercolor later. It’s remarkable how much you can enhance a simple drawing by adding watercolor, isn’t it?

I prefer to do the coloring right on the spot, to get a better sense of the light, but if I don’t have time or the circumstances aren’t conducive to pulling out the watercolor kit, doing it later still works.
