Ljungberg “patronizing” Major League Soccer?

Hey everyone. Doing some morning reading and came across an interesting piece about Cuauhtemoc Blanco of the Chicago Fire. I’ve always been curious about the guy because he’s so loved/hated in Mexico. Anyway, further down in the story, writer Andrea Canales claims Sounders FC’s newly signed designated player, Freddie Ljungberg, has “already displayed a slight patronizing attitude to MLS even before playing a single match.”

Perhaps Canales was referring to this quote from Ljungberg about coming to the U.S. and MLS, which he offered on the day he was introduced:

“I want to make this league better and develop it… I wanted to feel the reaction from people around me about the MLS, and people then said, ‘You should stay three more years at least in England or in Europe to play in the top flight, and not go already to the MLS.’ For me, I felt if I was going to do this, it’s a sincere thing, and really help the people over here with soccer, I should go now. I shouldn’t go in three years’ time when I’m past my peak.”

Reaction?
