I think you sort of have to respect Major League Soccer for allowing teams to hold open tryouts. We know that Chivas USA and FC Dallas have tried it; this year Seattle, Kansas City and San Jose are doing it, too.
But I don’t get the logic behind charging for trying out. Feel free to dispute this with me if you’d like, but Sounders FC made their tryouts free. It costs enough for some guys just to get there and for those from far away, maybe get a hotel and flight. And then the soccer equipment isn’t provided. Seattle at least gave the hopefuls a break on registration. KC and San Jose are charging. They must have some reason, but I don’t think it’s a wise move.
As I write this Tottenham Hotspur has just scored the equalizer in the 74th minute vs. Spartak Moscow. The Spurs were down 2-0.
How about a little MLS SuperDraft action on this snowy day? Here’s a mock draft from soccerbyives. He has Sounders FC taking Marcus Tracey of Wake Forest with first overall pick.
