UW’s Harden traded from Galaxy to Rapids

This news in a press release from the Galaxy:

LA GALAXY ACQUIRE THIRD ROUND MLS SUPERDRAFT PICK FROM COLORADO

Club Trades the MLS Rights of Ty Harden to the Rapids

CARSON, Calif. (Tuesday, January 13, 2009) –The LA Galaxy today acquired a third round pick (35th overall) in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft from the Colorado Rapids in exchange for the MLS rights to defender Ty Harden. The Galaxy now have five picks in Thursday’s SuperDraft, which will be held at the St. Louis Convention Center in St. Louis, Mo.

Harden, the Galaxy’s 2007 Defender of the Year, did not play in 2008 after electing to step away from the game to pursue philanthropic endeavors in February. A second round pick in the 2007 MLS SuperDraft out of the University of Washington, Harden appeared in and started a then-rookie record 24 games for the Galaxy in 2007, playing 2,086 minutes for the Galaxy, which were the second most on the club that season.

Here’s Harden’s Galaxy bio.

Here’s a story on why he stepped away from soccer, apparently temporarily.
