I made an effort to contact his agent yesterday but it wasn’t returned. So after a bit of online perusal I found this nugget from Steven Goff, one of the kings of all soccer blogs. He writes:
“Akron forward Steve Zakuani (Lackluster combine performance didn’t impact his standing; guaranteed Generation Adidas contract between $175,000 and $200,000; salary cap exempt; NCAA leading scorer.)”
Put that together with this comment from Zakuani yesterday, and it makes sense why he chose to stick with MLS.
“I mean, I had options in Europe, I looked over those, but the MLS contract I had with the money put aside was the biggest turning point for me. It just kept me over here.”
Goff also writes that Seattle is being considered as the host site for the MLS Cup this November.
